COVER REVEAL: In the Absence of You by Sunniva Dee

IN THE ABSENCE OF YOU
by Sunniva Dee
Publication date: June 28th 2016
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Aishe is running.
Running from the burn of a love she knows will consume her.
Running from a soul mate she’s never even met.
If only she hadn’t been hired as a merch girl for the hottest indie band on earth.
If only she’d never laid eyes on its front man, Emil—intense, sexy, and so unlike the men of her culture.
If only she hadn’t fallen onto his lips, then into his bed.
If only her flame hadn’t exploded into a full-on forest fire.
If only Emil’s heart didn’t belong to someone else.

Emil is running. Running from a broken heart.
Running from who he was with her.
If only Zoe hadn’t left.
If only Aishe hadn’t been right there.
If only she hadn’t been so damn gorgeous—insistent—different.
If only he could control himself around her.
If. Only.

AUTHOR BIO:
Between studies, teaching, and advising, Sunniva has spent her entire adult life in a college environment. Most of her novels are new adult romance geared toward smart, passionate readers with a love for eclectic language and engaging their brain as well as their heart while reading.

Born in the Land of the Midnight Sun, the author spent her early twenties making the world her playground. Southern Europe: Spain, Italy, Greece--Argentina: Buenos Aires, in particular. The United States finally kept her interest, and after half a decade in Los Angeles, she now lounges in the beautiful city of Savannah.

Sometimes, Sunniva writes with a paranormal twist (Shattering Halos, Stargazer, and Cat Love). At other times, it's contemporary (Pandora Wild Child, Leon's Way, Adrenaline Crush, Walking Heartbreak, and Dodging Trains, coming in late March 2016).

This author is the happiest when her characters let their emotions run off with them, shaping her stories in ways she never foresaw. She loves bad-boys and good-boys run amok, and like in real life, her goal is to keep the reader on her toes until the end of each story.

Find Yourself Again in DISCOVERING APRIL

Discovering April by Sheena Hutchinson

Publication date: April 27th 2015
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:
April Landau thinks she has everything she’s ever wanted. Her high school sweetheart, a house she can’t afford, her bipolar tabby cat, and she’s all set to begin her Junior year of college. Just when she least expects it, her life gets thrown for a loop. When things between her and her long time boyfriend unravel, she becomes stuck in a downward spiral of emotion. Finally, opening her eyes to the fact that she may have given up more than she ever could have imagined in this relationship. She finds herself struggling to keep her head above water.
Enter April’s next door neighbor— Jared Hoffman. He’s her complete opposite. A high school drop out who was forced to take over his parent’s business after their untimely death. It’s no surprise this tragedy affected him greatly, causing him to recede almost completely from society.
But he has one secret. A secret he’s been carrying around for years.

What happens when their worlds collide? Can an old friendship be the one thing that brings these two back to life?

A new adult love story filled with drama, sex, death, and the complications of all of the above.

THE REVIEW

April and Jared have lived next door to one another since they were just kids. As children they were the best of friends. In high school they started to drift apart and then Jared's parents were killed in a car accident and he withdrew from everyone around him.  Years later they are still neighbours, though they haven't truly been friends since the accident.

When April's boyfriend breaks up with her she struggles to find her footing and remember who she really is, when she's not just his girlfriend. She surprised, shocked and dismayed to realize that she hasn't recently considered who she was or what she wanted to do with her life.

Jared sees her struggling to move past her lost relationship and decides to help her remember the way she used to be, so that she could remember the girl she was, once upon a time.

I really did enjoy watching the way that April and Jared both evolved through the story. I liked seeing the way they grew up, while also remembering to embrace their inner child and have fun once in a while. And I really loved to watch them fall in love with each other too.

I have to admit that I struggled with reading this book through the first quarter of it. At times it was if the writing was done by a child - the wording, syntax and even the watery plot seemed immature. Then it changed. Almost in time with the evolution of the characters the writing improved. Or it seemed to me it did anyways. There were a couple moments here and there where I'd get that immature feeling again but then I'd turn a page and it was good again. Maybe it was just me, maybe it's a failing of the editing.

Either way, in the end DISCOVERING APRIL by Sheena Hutchinson is a very sweet story that I enjoyed reading and am happy to recommend to others.

Are You FEARLESS? - EXCERPT & GIVEAWAY

Fearless by Annie Jocoby
(Fearless #1)

Publication date: July 15th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:

BOOK ONE OF A PLANNED TRILOGY

BOOK TWO, SECRETS AND LIES, IS AVAILABLE NOW!

*Warning* Strong language and sexual situations. Ends in MAJOR cliffhanger. Not for the faint of heart. :)

Beautiful heiress Dalilah Gallagher, a former child art prodigy, has lost her way. Harsh criticism in her formative years has left her floundering and without the artistic voice that once centered her life.  Now, at the age of 20, she has spent the last nine years trying to reclaim what she lost.

Her struggles lead her to the nude-modeling world in New York City, where she hopes she will find her passion for art again. What she finds is surprising: Her artistic voice isn’t gone, merely misplaced.

Luke Roberts has a different problem. Raised by a solid, working-class fisherman in Maine, Luke is a gifted artist struggling to get a foothold in the busy New York City art scene. His gifts attract the attention of a wealthy benefactor, Blake Nottingham, who finds himself fascinated with Dalilah. Nottingham commissions Luke to provide him with a piece of art: A painting of Dalilah.

As the two young artists fall in love, Dalilah finds her artistic voice once more, so she’ll do anything to help Luke find the prominence he deserves. This leads to a dangerous game of deceit that puts Dalilah in Nottingham’s clutches when she tries to manipulate him into helping Luke.

Nottingham isn’t easily manipulated, though, and things go seriously awry for Dalilah. What happens when the manipulated becomes the manipulator?

This is a New Adult Contemporary Romance. Age groups are 18+. It has some sexually explicit scenes.

THE EXCERPT

I felt excited as I realized that Dalilah was definitely feeling something for me. It was
in her words and in her body language. She wanted me as much as I wanted her. That
much was perfectly clear.

But it just wasn’t as simple as all of that. I wished that it would be. But it wasn’t. I
couldn’t give her what she needed. At that moment, I just wasn’t able to give any woman
what she would need. I wasn’t established. Dalilah deserved somebody who could
monetarily afford to treat her like the platinum that she was. Yeah, Nottingham was
allegedly going to be giving me $5000, but the contract stipulated that it was to be paid
after the project was over. I had just noticed that the other day when I was reading the
fine print. So, in the meantime, I was broke.

And Dalilah was like a bottle of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Grand Cru, Cote de
Nuits, which was recognized as the finest wine in the world. She was unique, rare and
well out of my league. That I was increasingly feeling that I was falling for her, and I was
feeling that more and more, every time I saw her, was a non-factor. I simply couldn’t
have someone like her, and that was that. As frustrating as that was.

I doodled on the napkin in front of me, and then, just like that, song lyrics started
pouring out of my head. That wasn’t something that usually happened for me, because
inspiration for my lyrics constantly eluded me. But being up there with Dalilah - feeling
her warmth, seeing her extraordinary beauty, and sensing her even-more-extraordinary
intelligence – somehow did inspire me as nothing else ever had.

So, for the next hour, the lyrics poured out of me. What came out was a sappy love
song like the kind that I used to make fun of when I heard it on the radio. With the
exception of The Beatles Something of course – there was no arguing with that classic.

But, usually, when I heard a love song, I rolled my eyes. Because there wasn’t such a
thing as the kind of pure love that these songs conveyed.

Or so I thought. But I was increasingly seeing a glimpse, but just a glimpse, of what
these songs were talking about when I looked into Dalilah’s eyes.

I finally decided to walk to the subway station, which was a few blocks away from
her apartment, around 3 AM. I did have a double-shift at the bar the next day, which was
going to kill me, I knew. I was going to be dead-tired. And Dalilah would be coming to
my studio at 8 AM, too. For that, I knew that I would be wide awake.

I tried very hard to tamp down the feeling of absolute excitement that was bubbling
up as I anticipated seeing her again in just a few more hours. For she was still
untouchable to me in so many ways. I was amazed that I had the nerve to kiss her, but,
then again, that was how I was feeling about her. I couldn’t not kiss her. I couldn’t not
fantasize about making love to her. I had such an absolute passion for her that touching
her and kissing her almost seemed like it was second nature to me.

But my brain said that what had happened up there with her – the kisses – was going
to be as far as it ever could go. She was my muse, of that I was sure. She inspired me to
write a rather kick-ass love song, if I do say so myself, and she also inspired my art. I was
finding myself increasingly incorporating her, in some way, in everything that I was
composing, even if it was as an abstraction of some sort. Like I would be painting a
picture of people in a café, and there she was, popping up at one of the tables. Or I was
doodling a sketch of a busy city street, and Dalilah was there in the crowd.

And, of course, there was the portrait of Dalilah that I was creating for that wealthy
bastard, a portrait that I was suddenly feeling proprietary over. Which was a dangerous
way for me to feel, because I didn’t own this portrait. Nottingham did. I was just the
instrumentality for getting the portrait done. Just the same, the entire project was turning
into one that was a passion project for me, moreso than anything else had ever been. How
I wished that I could keep it for myself after it was finished!

Yes, she was my muse. And she might always be, even in the near future when I
would inevitably be forced to jettison my art and make it just a hobby, while I found a
“real” job that would pay the bills. She was my muse, but she could never be my lover. I
hated to think that I just wasn’t worthy of her, but that was what went through my head.

I might have been falling in love with her, but I still couldn’t imagine being with her.

Nonetheless, I looked forward to seeing her again with breathless anticipation.

AUTHOR BIO:

Annie Jocoby is the author of 8 contemporary romance novels and 3 New Adult contemporary romance novels. Her motivation to begin writing these novels is that she was interested in writing about rich men who actually love and respect their women. Her heroes are alpha and damaged, yet also genuinely good guys.

Ryan, Nick, Luke and Asher are all complicated characters who have experienced plenty of darkness, yet always seek the light. They would all go to the ends of the earth to protect the women they love. And they’re all sexy, enigmatic, magnetic and great in bed.

All of Annie’s books have things in common: they all combine a touch of mystery and intrigue with drama, love, and lots of hot sex. Some of the books have action and even some criminal elements in them. Her current book, in fact, is her first book that would be classified as straight romantic suspense, although it also combines definite elements of the thriller genre! If you’re in the market for a book that is fast-paced, where the heroes are beautiful and wealthy, and the heroines are strong, vulnerable and flawed, then try these books out!

For the Love of Music - ONCE IN A BLUE MOON BLITZ

For anyone who's followed, glanced at, read or stumbled upon my blog, it likely comes as little surprise that while reading is #1 on my list of favorite things to do, listening to music (and singing, especially if no one is around to hear me) is pretty high on the list too.  I'm always revved when I hear from other readers, bloggers, and writers about how they use music to keep them motivated and inspired while they go about their days.  It's just my luck that Author Amie Stuart of ONCE IN A BLUE MOON loves music just as much as me!!

Here's what she has to say about music, and how she was happily able to incorporate it into her book.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love music. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have set up Aunt Susie with her fictional dancehall.
I love music so much that it’s probably my third favorite thing after my kids and books! And I have a special soft spot for singer-songwriters like Sheryl Crow and Patti Griffin (if you haven’t heard her duet with Dierkes Bently, I highly recommend). As you read through ONCE IN A BLUE MOON, you’ll notice the chapter titles. Some of those are taken from Betti’s rules but some are actual songs.  Funny enough, I listened to a LOT of Stevie Ray Vaughn while writing this book! I say funny because, normally, I can’t listen to music with lyrics when I write. I guess I listened so much that it stopped intruding!
So who’s your favorite go-to, house cleaning, seat-dancing in the car till you embarrass your children band, singer or song(s)????
And here’s the playlist for the curious:
Satisfaction – The Rolling Stones
Same Old Song and Dance – Aerosmith
Love Struck Baby – Stevie Ray Vaughn
Crossfire – Stevie Ray Vaughn
Crazy – Patsy Cline
Gimme a Bullet – ACDC
Where is the Love – The Blackeyed Peas
There Goes the Neighborhood – Sheryl Crow
Remedy – The Black Crowes
Killing Time – Clint Black
Do You Want Fries With That? – Tim McGraw
Good Enough – Sarah McLachlan
Knockin' On Heaven's Door – Guns 'n Roses
Pride and Joy – Stevie Ray Vaughn
Mad Mission – Patty Griffin
Living With Ghosts – Patty Griffin
Tightrope – Stevie Ray Vaughn
Without You – Motley Crue
Not Alone – I'm going with Patty Griffin
One Last Glimpsing Peek... Parting Chances EXCERPT and GIVEAWAY
Because one peek is never enough and two just wets the appetite for more, here is one last peek at PARTING CHANCES by Caylie Marcoe for the night... Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------
“Do you need any more help?” I stepped out of Kyler’s grasp and glanced around the kitchen. It looked like chaos…but organized chaos.
“Nope. Everything is settled in here.” She hooked her arm through mine and led me out of the kitchen. Noah and Eli were sitting on the couch when we entered the living room. She nudged my arm, gave me a wink and turned to the guys. “Eli, would you mind running with Haley to get the pizzas?”
“I can get them myself.” Eli stood and headed for the door. I stared after him, hurt that he didn’t even want to be alone with me. Was he still just trying to give me space? Or did he finally realize that I was more trouble than he wanted?
“Well, I know you could. But I need Haley to stop at the store…I forgot something.” Kyler nudged my arm again, tilting her head slightly in the direction of the door.
I’m fluent in Kyler non-verbal gestures, and clearly, she was telling me to get out that front door. But my feet paused at the look Eli flashed Kyler. His eyes shone uncertainly. His gaze flicked to me quickly, but I caught the softness in them before they darted back to Kyler.
“What is it? I can pick that up too.” He plucked his keys from the table and propped himself up against the doorframe, waiting for Kyler to finish.
“Oh, well…I um forgot… I um…need some tampons.” She blurted out. I swear every single face in the room turned red.
Noah looked Kyler up and down before opening his mouth. “But I thought…” Kyler held up a hand to stop him and gave him a short glare before turning back to Eli.
“So did you want to pick those up? I’d have to write it down. Haley knows what kind I use, so it’d be easy for her to just grab them. But if you want to go at it alone—”
Eli interrupted her. “No, that’s okay. I could use Haley’s help.” He rushed out the door before Kyler could continue on about her feminine needs.
“Didn’t you just have your period?” My question hit Kyler’s smirk. I didn’t even need her to reply since I knew the answer. We were roommates after all.
Kyler winked at me again, before she pushed me toward the door. “You’re welcome!” I heard her say as I exited the house.
Just a Little Peek... Parting Chances EXCERPT and GIVEAWAY
Enjoy another little peek at Haley and Eli from Caylie Marcoe's PARTING CHANCES...
--------------------------------------------
I pushed from the table, making my way to my parents’ room. The door was cracked open. I gripped the knob, pushed it further open and peeked my head in. Mom was curled up on her side, sleeping peacefully. I didn’t want to interrupt her rest, but I also didn’t want to be away from her anymore. So, I did the only thing I could think of; I crawled onto my dad’s side and curled up next to her.
There had been many summer afternoons when she was sick the first time that I would refuse to play outside and just spent them by my mom’s side in their bed. I took in my mom’s face, how pale and drawn in it seemed since the last time I was here. Her hair was void of its usual shine and fullness. I brushed a few strands off her forehead and tucked them behind her ear. She moved at my touch, and I yanked my hand back to my side. Her eyes slowly blinked open, and she gave me a tired smile.
“Hey, sweetie, when did you get here?” Her voice came out rough. She sat up and took a sip of water from the glass on the bedside table.
“Around eleven or so.” I watched as she looked over at the clock.
“It’s already four-thirty? How did I sleep so long?” She raised her arms over her head and stretched back and forth. Color slowly started to return to her face. “It must have been because I couldn’t sleep last night. Binge watching TV shows has been my thing for the last few weeks.” She gave me a smile then threw her arms around me. “It’s good to see you.”
“You too,” I murmured into her shirt. Was she really staying up late and was that why she was looking weaker? Or was she just putting on a front so I wouldn’t worry so much about her? My mind chose to believe what she said was true. It was easier that way.
“So, tell me, how’s school, life?” She asked me this like we didn’t have weekly phone conversations.
“Midterms are next week. Really looking forward to them being over with. Work is…work. I smell like coffee daily, and it’s starting to lose its enjoyable scent.” I put on my best frown face, because I have always loved the smell of coffee, but it has started to wear on me.
“Don’t worry. Next summer, you’ll have some big fancy graphic design job, and coffee will be your love again.” Mom smiled. “Speaking of love…” She trailed off and gave me a wink.
“Oh come on! Not you too!” I threw my arms up in defeat. There was no way I wasn’t going to spill every single detail about Eli to my mom. She knew me better than that, and by the way she was adjusting her pillows behind her making herself comfortable, she knew I was going to tell her. She eyed me expectantly. “Noah has a big mouth.”
Mom laughed. “Tell your mother all about Eli Park.”
“Jeez! He gave last names and everything? Did you do a background check too?”
“Do you think I need to?” she joked. I rolled my eyes and settled against the pillows.
