FAOM: Romance During the American Revolution

Back in November when it first came out I spotlighted this book as a new release. Now I’m sharing it with you once again because it is the debut work from January’s Featured Author of the Month, Kelly Lyman.

The Petticoat Letters is a historical romance set during the American Revolution. It’s main character Nora Bishop is a 20-year old, unmarried woman in a time when women were considered far less capable then men. What they could do and what they could handle, while fierce at home, was assumed to be simply less than what men could do and what men could handle. It is my belief, after having only read a small bit of this book so far, that Miss Nora Bishop is going to prove that belief to be entirely false.

Will she? Won’t she?...

The only way to find out for sure is to get the book and find out!

FAOM: An Overview of 'The Chasing' Series

As her bio told us, Linda loves chaotic romances with happily-ever-afters - those stories that draw us in with their many twists and turns, before delivering heart-warming, happy endings. So it shouldn’t be too surprising that the stories she writes are just that sort. From my experience so far, the books of The Chasing series take you into the grit and dirt, before brushing you off and leading you down the right path to happiness. Which, for me, just makes them all the more appealing.

Today I’ll introduce you to each of the titles in Linda’s The Chasing series…

Chasing Rainbows (book 1)

At the start of her freshman year, Addison Hayes’s world is tragically turned upside down and she finds herself spiralling into the darkness of destructive habits. Now three years later, she’s still battling the ghosts of her past.

With the start of her senior year, Addie finds herself entangled in a twisted game between twin brothers, Chase and Chance Logan. Their path of destruction leaves an already tormented girl feeling even more lost and confused. But sometimes out of complete chaos can arise a blindingly blessed insight whose name is Jake Riley.

Jake is like no other guy that Addie has ever met before. He doesn’t scare easily. Unfortunately for Addie, Jake wants her, darkness and all.

Will Addie lose herself in the darkness or will she be brave enough to finally set herself free?

This month we’re giving away 2 e-copies of Chasing Rainbows away to two lucky people! It is super easy to enter and multiple ways to get your name in the bucket… ENTER HERE.

Finding Forever (book 2)

What if forever was never meant to be?

Kara Thom had always been the confident one until the fateful day her heart was shattered. She lost the one person she thought would never walk away…

Devon McGraw, the man who had promised her forever.

Will Kara forgive Devon’s past or will her own ruin any chance of her finding forever?

The Way Home (book 3)

It was an arrangement until it became more.

“Not everyone you love is going to leave you… but what if they do?”

For Nate Lucas, this was his reality.

When he lost her, he was left with no choice. Life was impossible in Crawley without her. He couldn’t live with all the memories or her ghost.

He vowed to never return again.

When you lose your way, how do you find the way home?

Fighting For A Chance (book 4)

It all began with a secret.

A cross of paths that altered a life.

Iris Malone had a plan of revenge. She searched for the man known as “The Savage.”

Chance Logan was one of the most promising heavyweight contenders on the planet.

Her plan was simple, to make a savage fall to his knees. She would break his heart like he’d broken so many countless others before her.

But sometimes even the best laid plans can begin to unravel.

Do you care to place your bets as to who will be standing at the end of the final round?

Available Now at

And there you have it. Four books to pull your heartstrings, twist you up, and then reduce you to a puddle of “awwwwwwww” at the end. Throughout November I’ll be taking a closer look at each of the books and will be sharing more about each one with you.

Until then – happy reading!

How About a NEW Giveaway?

As a book blogger I am forever thankful to the authors out there who are happy to donate prizes for me to give away... And of course I'm also thankful to all the folks who read my blog(s) and follow my social media pages, because let's face it - with out you I'd have no one, and no reason, to give stuff away. A little earlier today I was happy to announce the winner for the last FAST giveaway (THE NIGHT by N.R. Larry). Now I'm equally as happy to announce ANOTHER FAST GIVEAWAY!!!

Up for grabs now is WHAT HAPPENED IN VEGAS by Scott K. Haskin. This book is a bit of a detour for me (as far as the genre is concerned) but if there is one thing I love almost as much as reading and writing, except my kids of course, it's travel. Having been to Las Vegas, and having been one of the multitude of tourists walking aimlessly up and down the strip, very likely gaping in awe at the sights, sounds and people I encountered, I can honestly tell you that WHAT HAPPENED IN VEGAS is a book that I personally do look forward to reading and looking through.

WHAT HAPPENED IN VEGAS
by Scott K. Haskin

Take a walk down the famous Las Vegas Strip, bobbing and weaving through casinos, restaurants and shopping centers. See the sights and, more importantly, hear the sounds. “What Happened in Vegas” takes you on a journey down this world-famous street so you can experience one of the true, yet often overlooked, treasures of this magical town: people watching.

You’ll get a peek at the random, curious statements and questions you may very well hear at any given moment With 450 captured random moments, you are sure to find plenty to make you smile, laugh or just wonder what exactly is going on.

To bring the experience even more to life, over 75 pictures are included that are just as random as the phrases themselves, rounding off this truly unique Las Vegas experience. The only things missing are the smells of alcohol and stale cigarettes…

So... take a minute and enter to win this fascinating book today and you could win!

The Winner of THE NIGHT is....

It is with sincere pleasure that I say congratulations to Janeen Garner - winner of the ecopy of THE NIGHT by N.R. Larry in our recent FAST giveaway.

Your Chance to Win... The New & Updated Contest for THE NIGHT

Continuing the giveaways on the Another Year of Books Celebration Event page seems to be a bust. No ones visiting (officially, according to FB, the event ended on Thursday after all) and at this point I'm not even sure whether the posts I've been putting up are even visible still. So I'm changing things up.

Contests will still be posted on Facebook on my page but they will officially be run here on Ups, Downs, Ins & Outs, and on Inside My Mind. To increase visibility for the contests and hopefully get a few more people interested in winning them, I'll also be sharing the contests on my other social media pages - Tsu, Twitter, G+ and Instagram.

And you can help out too.

If you see one of the contest posts - share it, like it, retweet it, whatever. The truth is I run all these contests to the benefit of readers and to help out my fellow authors to spread the word about their work. I don't get anything in return - except a "thanks" from a friend, and I'm using a large amount of my own time to run them. So really, anything you can do to help spread the word - it helps those authors more than you can know, and that's what it's really all about.

But enough of this chattiness.

Here's the giveaway. Please note that all giveaways will now be run powered by Rafflecopter for ease of sharing and choosing a winner.

THE NIGHT by N.R. Larry

Kinsley will do anything to forget she may have killed someone.

No one knows more than Kinsley Lane that nothing good happens when the dead walk free. A year ago, she was possessed by a ghost and her life forever changed.

Luckily, on this All Hallows’ Eve, the witches of Harker Heights have offered her protection from the dead spirits who will roam free. Mac Harker is appointed her guardian and everything goes smoothly, until a mysterious guy arrives on the grounds. One that only Kinsley can see.
Mac is determined to protect her from Charming, leaving Kinsley torn between wanting his protection and the strong pull to a guy who won’t even tell her his real name. She must make a choice; the one she makes leads to the biggest heartbreak, and greatest love she’s ever known.

All over the course of one night.

What's The New FAST Giveaway of the Day?

Here it is...

Today's new FAST Giveaway features Finding Home by Jackie Weger.

What is the book about? Well --

Twenty-four year old Phoebe Hawley is on a quest to find her family a home. On the road with two siblings, twelve year-old Maydean and five year-old Willie-Boy, Phoebe is out of money, out of gas and out of patience. Now the only things she owns in abundance are Hawley backbone and Hawley pride--neither of which she can trade for food or gas.  A collision with Gage Morgan puts Phoebe's mission in even worse jeopardy--until Phoebe discovers Gage Morgan owns the perfect place for the Hawley clan. But! Gage Morgan has a bruised ego, a tight fist on his land, an iron fist on his heart, and is the unlikeliest man in the universe to succumb to her schemes. Phoebe wields all of the pride, backbone and country smarts she owns to claim his home, plow his land and pilfer his heart. Nothing works. With time running against her family, she plies one last inducement--her scarce feminine wiles...and hopes it will be enough.

Just a Quick Note...

I just wanted to take a moment and check in with everybody. I've been notably absent from my blogs during the past week or so, and even my social media presence has been relatively minimal. While I apologize for this absence, it was unfortunately unavoidable.  I've suffered for more than 20 years with back issues and in recent years those issues, while not of very frequent occurrence have become increasing painful and difficult to deal with.

My back did go out early last week and left me nearly completely incapacitated for over a day and with a wide range of muscle and nerve problems in the aftermath. I am still not back to normal capacity and have to limit the amount of time that I'm able to be at my computer each day.

I will continue to do what I can from my phone and iPad, but some aspects that I have to use the computer for my be affected for the interim.

That said...

The Halloween Haunt will be running from 5-11pm (MST) this Friday, October 30th - complete with author takeovers, giveaways, contests, games and LOTS of fun! If you haven't joined us yet simply go HERE and click join! Pre-event giveaways are already underway but I still have plenty of goodies to give to all you fine folks!!! To see all of the event details check under the Special Events page here on my blog :-)

So I've got to ask... Are you coming to the Halloween Haunt?

Guest Post by Taylor Dawn - SAVING LONDON - Blitz

I welcome to Ups, Downs, Ins and Outs today Author Taylor Dawn (aka C.D. Taylor) who has most generously offered up a guest post for us all... Enjoy!

“What’s On Your List?”
By Taylor Dawn

How are you using your time on this earth?
In the giant picture that we call life, many of us tend to forget what all of this is really about. We are so caught up with trying to find success and happiness, that we miss the things that are right there in front of us. We fail to do the things we’ve always wanted to do because they become daunting tasks that might involve some sort of pain, or even sponge too much of our time. But what if you found out today that you only had a certain amount of time left? What if you were able to look at your life’s clock and see the remaining minutes tick by? Would that make you stop and think about the things you haven’t done? Would it make you kick it into high gear and get to it? I choose not to wait until I hear the tick of the clock hands as they pass by each number. So much so, that this entire premise inspired a book. A book that took on a new life and morphed into so much more than I could’ve ever imagined. So I ask you…what’s on your list?
I’ve had a bucket list for quite some time now. On it are items that some would say are completely out of reach for someone like me. What type of person am I? Well, I’m the person whose spine is partially made up of rods and screws. I’m the person who shouldn’t be able to do much, but I refuse to cave to the fact that I am not the same as I was years ago. My body may be broken, but my spirit burns bright. For my character, London, in Saving London, the same holds true. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She was handed a death sentence and expected to go home and wait for the end to find her. But London is a lot like myself. She refuses to rot away and compares herself to a banana. Sitting on a counter and rotting away like a banana won’t do. Embarking on an adventure for her last year is the only way she wants to live for the rest of her time. Would you do that? Would you sell off your worldly possessions to fund the adventures on your bucket list? Me? I most likely would. Like I said before, London and I have a lot in common. We also share some of the items on our lists. Funny how that happened. She was supposed to have her own list, but when you write a character, sometimes they turn out more like you than you expected. And I know the question burning in your mind right now, I can practically see it spinning so fast that smoke is barreling out of your ears. You can slow down that thought process because I’m going to put you out of your misery. Yes, I will tell you what my bucket list consists of. Not the entire thing, but some of the items.

The first thing on my list is to fly a plane. London and I have this one in common. Now, I’m not looking to get behind the wheel of an American Airlines Jet, we have enough issues with crazy pilots as it is. For me, a crop duster plane will do. I don’t want to do the whole takeoff and landing part either. I’d just like to hold the controls for a bit while I’m in the air. I want to feel like it’s me keeping the bird in the air. Wouldn’t that be amazing?

Secondly I wanted to visit what I consider one of the most beautiful places on this earth. A place where I could stand and just take in the environment around me and appreciate it for what it was. I was able to actually check this item off my list in 2010. My family and I visited a tiny island off the coast of Belize called Goff’s Cay. Now, mind you, this miniature island was literally no bigger than a football field. White sand beaches, crystal blue waters and breathtaking scenery below the water. The amount of life bustling beneath the surface was a sight to behold. I can still remember standing on the edge of the sand, letting the clear water lap over my toes, thinking “this is it, this is my most beautiful place on this earth.” When the realization hit me, it was difficult to hold my tears at bay. Checking this item off my list was a spiritual experience that I shall not soon forget.
Number three on my bucket list could be comical to some and confusing to others. Here goes…I wanted to make and decorate a three tiered cake. Yes, you heard me right, a cake. I still giggle when I think about it. I’m still not sure why I threw that on my list but there it was. Did I get to do it? Yes I did. It took hours of my time but by the end, I had a slightly lop-sided three tiered cake. But to me, it was beautiful. And hey, topsy-turvy cakes seem to be in style lately. Since I completed it several years ago, I consider myself a trendsetter.
London and I also have “climb a mountain” in common on our bucket lists. In Saving London, she gets to complete this one. And I’ve been able to do so as well. Traveling to Colorado I took on a chunk of rock that was a little over 12,000 feet above sea level. Talk about tiring. But I made it to the peak. I stood there looking down at the tiny town below me thinking “I feel so big, but yet so small.” It was an eye opening experience. You stand at the bottom thinking there’s no way you’ll make it to the top but when you get there, you let out a sigh of relief. I learned a valuable lesson when I climbed. It’s not about the view from the top. It’s the view from the bottom because from the bottom, there’s only one way to go. Up. I took a lot away from that experience that I hold with me to this day. And yes, when I found myself on the top of my mountain, I cried tears of joy. How could you not?
I think I’ll round this out by telling you just one more thing on my bucket list. I don’t want to share the entire thing that somehow doesn’t seem right. But the 5th item is to dance with my son at his wedding. He’s only 10 right now, and I truly hope I get to have him lead me around the dance floor on his big day. But as with everything, we will never know what the future holds.
Life doesn’t offer guarantees. Its rules aren’t written in black and white somewhere for us to find. I believe that we must live each day as if we may not wake tomorrow. Smile plenty, love with all your heart and take stock in the little things that life has to offer. Someday you’ll look back and realize those small things were actually the big things.
Peace, Love and Pages
Taylor Dawn
